CHAPTER 31
Jamir in trap
Jamir entered the house. His mother was
sitting on the bed. Jamir went near her happily. Mother looked at him in
surprise. Jamir removed the towel with money from his pocket and put it in
front of his mother. Then he sat in front of her and opened the towel. His
mother was surprised to see so much money.
Pointing to the money, Jamir said, “Mommy, our troubles are now over.”
He placed the money in front of her.
Mother was shocked. “From where
did you bring so much money?”
Just then, Maula came in and stood at the door watching what was
happening. He was also shocked to see so much money.
Akram had told Jamir what to tell his parent. Remembering the story,
Jamir said mechanically, “One agent has given me a good job in Dubai. He has
given one lakh rupees as advance. I will leave next week.”
Maula was shocked to hear this. He came in and sat down looking at the
money. Then he looked at his son.
Looking at his dad, Jamir said, “Is this enough, dad? If you want more, I
will ask the agent.”
Maula did not believe the story Jamir had said. But he did not say so to
his son. He said, “Ok, my son. I will tell you tomorrow how much I want.”
Jamir was very happy. He left the money and went out.
Mother was very happy to get so much money. She looked at her husband and
said, “Due to our poverty, we could not educate our only son properly. Yet he
has somehow managed to catch an agent and is now going to Dubai. May Allah keep
the person who have us this money happy.”
Maula looked at her face fearfully and with doubt. “If one wants to go to
Dubai or Arab, one needs passport and visa. Not only that, we have to give
thousands of rupees. But see, that agent has given this boy one lakh rupees and
is taking him to Dubai it seems. And you believe all this. I am sure something
is going on.”
Jamir’s mother was shocked to hear this. She had never thought on these
lines. She took hold of her husband’s hand and said, “Oh Allah, I am confused.”
Maula patted her hand and said, “You don’t worry. Nothing will happen to
our son.” He went out of the house.
