CHAPTER 3
Amrita in tears
Amrita was sitting on the bed in her room. She
was looking at the invitation card in her hand sadly. She put her hand on it.
At the same time her father came into the room fully dressed, ready to go
to the office. Ranjit looked at his daughter and asked, “Baby, you did not go
to the shooting academy today?”
As he approached her, she lifted her head to look at him. She had tears
in her eyes.
Amrita said sadly, “Tomorrow is Siddartha’s marriage. That is why; we
have holiday for three days.”
Seeing the tears in his dauthter’s eyes, Ranjit sat near her and put his
hand around her. She put her head on his shoulders and cried.
Feeling sad, Ranjit said, “Sorry baby, my anger spoilt the things. Please
forgive me. By the time I understood him, things got out of hand.”
Amrita wiped her eyes and said, “It is all my fate, dad. I will never
blame you for what happened.”
She looked up at his face and asked, “Will you also attend the marriage
tomorrow?”
Ranjit shook his head sadly. “You know isn’t it that I have a very
important job to do tomorrow. If I go out now, I will return only tomorrow
morning to take bath after that bastard’s dead body falls. Each moment I have
to run all around the city keeping my eyes open to watch out for the terrorist
acts. Who knows where all those bastards will plant bombs and take innocent
lives?”
Amrita nodded with understanding. The most dangerous terrorist Afzal was
to be hanged tomorrow morning at 5:30 AM at the same auspicious time when
Siddartha and Reshmi were to be married.
Ranjit got up to leave. “By the way, if you are going to attend the
marriage, just give a bouquet on my behalf.”
Amrita said calmly, “Sure dad.”
